Description

Coconut, fruit of the coconut palm, a tree of the palm family (Arecaceae). Coconuts probably originated somewhere in Indo-Malaya and are one of the most important crops of the tropics. Coconut flesh is high in fat and can be dried or eaten fresh. The liquid of the nut is used in beverages. Both green coconut meat and water are rich in phenolic compounds, which are antioxidants that can reduce inflammation and prevent oxidative damage to the cells. The water and tender meat of young coconuts are very nutritious. The water can be used as a natural sports recovery drink. Plus, green coconuts contain nutrients and antioxidant compounds that may protect against cellular damage and heart disease.
